Why are design-driven businesses so much more competitive and profitable than those who do not to go the design route? How can design-thinking and service-design processes help grow manufactures’ bottom line? Is this idea a pipe dream or a potential reality?

 

The eThekwini Furniture Cluster & KZN Clothing & Textile Cluster hosted a breakfast talk with Prof Des Laubscher as he discussed ways for firms to gain competitive advantage through design and provides practical steps for manufacturers to implement design thinking whilst drawing on examples from the furniture sector.

    About Prof. Des Laubscher:

    Prof. Laubscher has achieved many prestigious titles within the design world. He was the past President of the International Federation of Interior Architects, is Vice President of the International Council of Design, is President of the Pan African Design Institute and is Chair of the Board of the African Institute of Interior Design Professions (IID).

    He has presented papers related to design issues in many countries around the world. These countries include Korea, Japan, Australia, Indonesia, China, the Netherlands, Spain, Denmark, England, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and the USA. He has also been a juror and Chair for many design competitions internationally.

    In addition, he is an advisor on design matters for the Department of Arts and Culture in South Africa and is on an expert panel formulating a design policy for the government as well as a national design policy
